Cisco shows confidence in RSA SecurID

Cisco affirmed its confidence in RSA’s SecurID two-factor technology by announcing the token is a primary security piece of its PCI 2.0 architecture.

Cisco has bundled several components in order to make the PCI 2.0 architecture PCI-compliant with the Payment Card Industry’s toughest standards for payment card data protection.


Verizon Business, a PCI qualified security assessor, has examined Cisco’s architecture and believes its security components could pass a PCI audit.

However, critics of RSA are not so sure, citing the recent data breach with SecurID and lack of transparency around the details of it.

GoldKey Security Corporation has announced that is will support two-factor authentication for Cisco’s upcoming release of its AnyConnect Secure Mobility VPN Client.

GoldKey’s security tokens with Elliptic Curve Cryptography capabilities can be used with the VPN client’s encryption of IP traffic based on the Suite B set of encryption algorithms designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) for Department of Defense communications.

Bedford, Mass.-based RSA announced that its SecurID can be integrated with the Microsoft Windows Active Directory Federation Services 2.0 (AD FS 2.0). This will enable organizations to provide secure user access to Office 365 cloud-based Web applications such as Microsoft Exchange technology.

OneLogin is now offering RSA SecurID technology as an integrated option on its cloud-based Identity & Access Management Service.

The SecurID feature will add a second layer of authentication to OneLogin in order to prevent unauthorized access to the product. To add the two-factor authentication, users may enter their personal password, along with a SecurID-generated one-time password.
